Kansas City Chiefs

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS HISTORY & INFORMATION

2009 Kansas City Chiefs Football Preview:

The Kansas City Chiefs should easily surpass their win total from 2008, when the young team finished the season with a 2-14 record. The 2009 Chiefs look like a radically different team if only because they have a new face of the franchise in quarterback Matt Cassel. Cassel follows his former Pats GM to KC to try jumpstart a Chiefs franchise that has been idling the last couple of years. Cassel will be joined on the offense by young, talented WR Dwayne Bowe and trio of running backs that include Larry Johnson and Jamal Charles. The Kansas City defense could be stingy with players like Glenn Dorsey and Derrick Johnson. With all of those good things happening, you can’t blame KC fans if they start dreaming of an Cardinals-type season.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS EXPERIENCE:

The Kansas City Chiefs play in the West Division of the American Football Conference in the National Football league (NFL). The team was founded in 1960 as part of the American Football League (AFL) in which they would win 3 championships. After the two leagues merged, the Kansas City Chiefs would win a Super Bowl in 1969 but then struggle and perform poorly throughout most of the ’70s and ’80s. Marty Schottenheimer took the helm as coach in 1989 and would lead the Chiefs to 7 playoff appearances in 8 years. Kansas City has again struggled since Dick Vermeil took over the team, although their home record is still among the best in the league and the team has proven it must be taken seriously. Look for Kansas City Chiefs to make a run at the playoffs this season.

The Kansas City Chiefs have played their home games at Arrowhead Stadium since 1972. The stadium holds a capacity crowd of nearly 80,000 and has sold out every game for an incredible 17 seasons. The crowd is boisterous and rabid about their team. Attend a game and you’ll feel what resembles a college football atmosphere with tailgating and unbridled enthusiasm.
